Dexepin hydrochloride was administered to the patients with cardiospasm (4 cases), gastric neurosis (27 cases), irritable colon syndrome (8 cases), and undetermined cases complaining of gastrointestinal symptoms (4 cases).
The effects of doxepin hydrochloride on the above 43 cases of functional disorders of gastrointestinal tract showed as follows:
1. Effective ratio was 90.7 per cent (39 of 43 cases) including 6 cses of slight improvement, 10 cases of moderate, and 23 cases of marked improvement.
2. Abnormal laboratory findings in the blood chemistry after administration of doxepin hydrochl´oride included increased activities of SGOT(2 of 24 cases) and alkaline phosphatase (1 of 22, cases), and T.T.T. (1 of 22 cases).
3. Side effects of doxepin hydrochloride were drowsiness (37.21%), dry mouth. (30.23%), blurred vision (20. 93%), dizziness (23.25%) and fatigue (18: 60%) which were mild and subside during treatment spontaneously except 2 cases (4. 65%).
